Playtex class action launched by U.S. woman
A federal lawsuit has been filed against Playtex products that charges the manufacturer for using toxic chemical, bisphenol A (BPA), in their baby bottles and did not disclose this fact.
The plaintiff, Ashley Campbell of Westport, Connecticut, seeks national class action status for this case. Campbell said she purchased the bottles without knowing they contained BPA.
Research studies have shown that BPA, even at low doses, can increase the growth of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer cells in animals.
In April, Wal-Mart announced it will phase out bottles containing BPA by 2009 while Nalgene Outdoor Products said it has plans to discontinue use of the chemical.
Playtex declined comment on the law suit.
