Credit card class action
If you used your credit card overseas between Feb 1, 1996 and Nov 8, 2006, you could be entitled to at least a $25 rebate from your credit card company.
A class action lawsuit was filed against MasterCard, Diners Club, Visa, Bank of America, Citibank, Chase, One/First USA, Washington Mutual/Providian, HSBC/Household, MBNA, for not publishing the foreign currency transaction fees. This case has been stretched out for over 10 years in the courts, and now, credit card issuers have finally come to an agreement to settle this class action suit. A $336 million fund has been formed to field settlements to their customers.
If you went on only one to three overseas trips and spent less than $2,500, you just need to fill in your details on the Easy Refund form to get your $25 rebate.
But, if you spent more than $2,500, you need to answer a few questions for the Total Estimation Refund. In fact, those who are frequent fliers with J.P. Morgan Chase, Citibank or Bank of America, you can provide documentation for your spending to the Annual Estimated Refund — you can receive as much as three per cent of your expenditure.
The deadline for these claims is May 30, 2008.
