Bausch & Lomb ReNu class action suits still going on
In April 2006, eye care company Bausch & Lomb grappled with lawsuits against their contact lens solution product ReNu with MoistureLoc.
This was because of contamination that led to infecting consumers with a serious eye infection, fusarium keratitis.
The symptoms include red, swollen, and oozing eyes.
This month saw the latest lawsuit filed on behalf of seven people who claim to have suffered after using ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution.
Filed on May 13, 2008 in St. Clair County, Illinois, the suit claims that the plaintiffs experienced extreme pain in their eyes, photophobia, corneal infection, ulceration and/or scarring, loss of vision, which required medical treatment.
After the product recall two years ago, an investigation was carried out in the company’s manufacturing facility in Greenville, South Carolina.
To date, Bausch &Lomb has faced over 400 lawsuit regarding this product. Observers predict that this debacle will set the company back over $1 billion in damages.
